Back on the Map is a fantastic place to volunteer, it makes me feel safe and supported as well as helping me fill in my spare time.

Meet Matty

"The support they offer helps me feel part of the community"

I get involved with as much as I can…

My name is Matthew Harrison, grew up and and live in Hendon with my family. I have been involved with Back on the Map for around 7 years; working at the Community Allotment and undertaking training to become a lead volunteer on the East Rangers team, both roles have included several training courses in manual handling, health & safety and management of power tools.

My initial involvement was a progression from a previous volunteering role at a local youth project, also in Hendon. When it closed I joined the volunteering programme at back on the Map as I enjoyed being part of my community and wanted to continue making a difference where I live.

I am an active member of Back on the Maps woodwork group, the allotment committee and lead on weekly area cleans ups and litter picks. I enjoy being active in the community as it gives me opportunities to gain skills and has improved my confidence massively.

Back on the Map is a fantastic place to volunteer, it makes me feel safe and supported as well as helping me fill in my spare time. I would recommend it to anyone. The support they offer helps me feel part of the community and that my opinions really makes a difference.
