Carnegie Community Corner offers an accessible base for local residents and community groups to hold activities and groups, meetings and social events. We have different spaces within the centre which are suitable for a variety of uses. The building is fully accessible for prams and those with a disability.
Photocopying and Printing facilities are available in the centre for a small charge, ask at reception for details.
Our Community Central area is versatile and is used for a range of activities including arts & craft groups, exercise classes, table top sales, meetings and our kids club. The space can hold up to 50 people and can seat 40 comfortably.
Carnegie Community Corner boasts the largest community book collection in Sunderland; our Community Library offers a collection adult fiction and non-fiction, a large print section, Teenage fiction and a welcoming Children’s Section. Anyone can join our Community Library free of charge and books are borrowed on an honesty basis (there are no fines for late books). If there is something you would like that we don’t have our dedicated Community Library Volunteers will try to get it in for you.
In partnership with City Library Services our Community Library Volunteers will soon be offering a ‘Books at Home’ service for local residents who have mobility issues and the elderly. If you are interested in this service for yourself or someone you know contact us on 0191 514 7844.
The Community Library is also used by local groups for meetings and is used by our Cinema Club. The room can comfortably accommodate 20 people and has access to a disabled toilet.
In the heart of Community Central is a bank of PC's these can be accessed by residents during our normal opening hours. The Net Zone offers high speed internet access free of charge for an hour to local people. A small charge of £1 per hour then applies. Please read our Acceptable Public Internet Use Policy below for our rules on fair and safe use of this facility.
Our IT Suite is small but well equipped and can comfortably accommodate 7 to 10 people for training or smaller groups of 4 to 6 for meetings. We can also offer a private one to one room which can be used for confidential meetings, counselling and one to one advice.
We offer access to a range of services/ facilities and deliver various community development activities from our base Carnegie Community Corner on Toward Road. Whilst we would like as much of that as possible to be free of charge and recognise it is vital that provision is affordable to local residents and community groups.
