Back on the Map was established in 2001 as the locally-lead New Deal for Communities (NDC) partnership. Having successfully delivered the transformational £54M NDC programme of improvements we have established a new set of goals for the future. These are to build;
- An Influencing Role for Residents
- A Better Place
- A Stronger Community
Back on the Map is now a registered charity with a board of trustees consisting of eight residents and three non-residents. We have a wholly owned trading subsidiary of the charity, Back on the Map Enterprises, which generates income for the charity through our property portfolio.
We are proud to have continued support from local residents and involvement from long standing local businesses including North East Vending.
As well as attracting interest from local entrepreneurs our work has won us two prestigious accolades. Firstly in 2011 Back on the Map was announced as the winner of RICS Regeneration Award for North East Renaissance reflecting our success in creating a better place. Back on the Map reached the grand final in the RICS National Regeneration category. Secondly we were nominated and won the Sunderland Echo Pride of Wearside Community Group of the Year 2011 acknowledging our work in creating a stronger community. More recently we were recognised for our work in community development and partnership working and were awarded Community Partner Award from Sunderland Mind.
